Prayer Retreat: Breakthrough Prayer
Do you long for 2024 to become your “Yes!” year — a fresh, exciting year of discerning and saying yes to God’s new possibilities and breakthroughs?
At this retreat, you will learn and gain a short, additive daily “breakthrough prayer” practice that will equip you to ask for, notice, and respond to God’s divine guidance and direction with increased awareness and clarity. By the addition of a short breakthrough prayer component, your entire focus will begin to shift from inward to up-and-outward, and your lifestyle will be infused with an atmosphere of hope and expectation as God’s miraculous responses open before you.
Breakthrough prayer can be incorporated into your existing personal prayer practices, as well as that of your church or ministry—and this retreat will provide many stories, practical examples and ideas of how others across the country have done so with innovation and impact. Most of us would agree that prayer is important… but the supernatural happens when we so believe prayer makes a difference that we move it to the center of our daily prayer practices, ongoing!
Invite others to attend together with you—this is an ideal retreat for both individuals and also for staff teams, committees, small groups or classes who are ready for Lenten renewal and spiritual focus.

Retreat Leader
Rev. Sue Nilson Kibbey serves as Director of the Bishop Bruce Ough Innovation Center at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Sue is a nationally-recognized trainer, consultant and author, all with intent to fuel the spiritual and missional renewal of pastors, leaders and congregations. Sue’s greatest passion is igniting church wide congregational momentum with what she terms a “Breakthrough Prayer Initiative,” for which she’s provided training and equipping for thousands of church pastors, church planters, leaders and members. She is an adjunct faculty instructor at United, teaching the master of divinity “Leadership for Ministry” course each year. She is the mentor-student assistant for United’s “Open the Floodgates” doctoral focus group.
Sue’s local church ministry appointments have included a variety of roles, including executive pastor of Ginghamsburg UMC in Tipp City, OH, partnered with senior pastor Mike Slaughter for a decade of dramatic growth, including both local and global missional fruitfulness. Sue has also served on the executive staff of the United Methodist West Ohio Conference as the creator and director of the Missional Church Consultation Initiative (MCCI)—which has eventually spread across multiple states, involving more than 275 churches of all sizes and settings in creative revitalization for a fresh season of impact. Sue now leads the Innovation Center’s prayer-fueled “Floodgates Collective,” which offers customized master course training and practical implementation guidance for congregations longing to shift from plateau or decline into vibrant, prayer-saturated, Spirit-guided discernment of steps forward.
Sue has authored eight books. Her most recent include: Dynamite Prayer: A 28-Day Experiment (coauthored with Rosario Picardo), Invite Resources, 2022 (now a certified Amazon “bestseller” — also translated into Spanish and Korean versions), Open Road: The Adventure of a Breakthrough Prayer Initiative, MarketSquare Books, 2021, Ultimate Reliance: Breakthrough Prayer Practices for Leaders, Abingdon Press, 2019, and Floodgates: Holy Momentum for a Fearless Church, Abingdon Press, 2016.
