Bearing Witness in the Kin-dom:
Living into the Church’s Moral Witness through Radical Discipleship
In Jesus’ own words, he came to bring good news to the poor, release the captives, restore sight to the blind, and to let the oppressed go free. What is the responsibility of the church to follow Christ’s example in word and deed? While these times might feel particularly turbulent, society has always confronted the church with challenging issues where she has had to discern how God was calling her. The church’s track record in these moments is far from perfect. The purpose of this study is to help the church and its members discern our call and bear witness to the will of God for a more just world.

The study leader will be Dr. Judith Pierre-Okerson, who was consecrated as a Deaconess in the UMC during the 2018 United Methodist Women's Assembly in Columbus, OH.
A member of Miramar United Methodist Church, Dr. Pierre-Okerson is the co-lay leader of her congregation. A committed member of United Methodist Women, she has taught mission studies, led retreats and Bible studies and has facilitated workshops at national and conference events. She chairs the Governance Committee of the United Methodist Women Board of Directors.

The study book is written by Darryl W. Stephens, an ordained United Methodist deacon who directs United Methodist studies and the Pennsylvania Academy of Ministry at Lancaster Theological Seminary, and served as assistant general secretary of sexual ethics and advocacy for the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women.
