​Lenten Preaching Workshop

Lent is coming - are you ready? Whether you are burnt out, too busy, spent after years of ministry, or just coming up blank this year, this workshop will prepare you to offer your best work to your congregation and visitors this Lenten season. Join us for a planning/sharing retreat to “prime the pump” for pastors and worship team planners leading into 2022. Participants will also enjoy personal quiet time for study, planning, and reflection in the beautiful sacred space of Olmsted Manor Retreat Center. Our retreat leader, Rev. Dr. Jeff Sterling, will offer individual consultation to aid participants in making their specific plans for this central season of the church year. The event will offer ideas helpful to any size congregation.

Jeff Sterling is an ordained elder who retired after 36 years in pastoral ministry. His last appointment was as lead pastor at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Allison Park, a large church that offers multiple worship services each weekend, each of different styles. As an itinerant United Methodist Elder, he served churches in Turtle Creek, Coraopolis, Sharon, and Warren, all in Western PA. He and his wife, Dara, live in Adams Township. Jeff has a Bachelor of Science degree in communication from Clarion University, and holds Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
 
He states: “Prior to my appointment to St. Paul’s, I was mostly a lectionary preacher. St. Paul’s had adopted a more theme-based style of preaching and worship, so this ‘old dog’ had to learn some ‘new tricks’ in my final seven years in full-time ministry.”

Event Information

  • Event starts with dinner on Monday, January 24 and concludes with lunch on Wednesday, January 26. Check-in is in Groves Lodge between 3 and 5pm on Monday.
  • Pricing includes two-nights stay (private hotel style room with linens), six meals, and course tuition. Discount available for those willing to select or be assigned a roommate. Please contact Olmsted for commuter rates.
