Fall/Winter 2010
Jody Z. Larson, Director, Olmsted Manor Retreat
Center
“The times they are a changing.” It seems as though the movement to
go paperless is well underway whether we like it or not. Saving
trees is important and I am all for that. Sometimes though, it is
nice to hold something in your hand and read it. I often grow weary
of gazing at the computer screen.
I am sure you have already noticed that you only receive one edition
of the paper newsletter in a calendar year from Olmsted Manor. We
have made the switch to monthly e-newsletters that are short and to
the point. I am told that that is the wave of the future. Give
people quick information that they can read in a flash and then they
can go on to the next thing on their list. It will take me a while
to get used to it but eventually I will fall into line.
This year has been a very successful year for Olmsted, successful in
the fact that we have been quite busy with a wide variety of people
using the retreat center. Being busy is a great thing in light of
the past years of economic down turn. Overnight use is crucial to
our coming closer to meeting expenses. The economics of running a
retreat center are often a delicate balance from month to month. We
feel as though this has been a particularly good year!
With your continued financial support we continue to provide quality
ministry and service at an affordable price. Our rate structure is
carefully monitored and planned for in consideration of users’
budgets. We want everyone to be able to come and enjoy our facility.
It is with a grateful heart that I wish to thank you, the faithful
contributors to Olmsted. We will continue to work on ways to use
your gifts most efficiently. Without your support much of what we
provide would not be possible. And if we save a little money on
paper, well I guess that is good too.
Blessings,
Jody Z. Larson
