Personal Retreats at Olmsted Manor

Olmsted Manor is a perfect place to
get away for personal study and quiet reflection. Many find
that Olmsted's unique location, at the edge of the Allegheny National
Forest, combined with the well-kept facilities, provide a wonderful
environment to renew the spirit.
Reserve a room in the
historic Manor house, the modern Groves Lodge or rent the Carriage
House apartment and spend time away from schedules, meetings, telephones and
television. Walk the labyrinth, hike the forest trails,
explore the grounds or find yourself sitting in the quiet stillness.
The Olmsted Staff cooks and serves
groups of 6 or more, so people who come for personal retreats are on
their own for meals unless there is another group retreat in residence. The kitchen is available for those who
cook for themselves. If there is a group is in residence, you may
choose to join
them for meals.
Here is a quote from Rev. Duane Thompson,
who came to Olmsted to write and study on a personal sabbatical
retreat:
"Olmsted Manor will never be quite the same place for my
wife Brenda and I after the summer of 2005. For six meaningful
weeks, we were in residence there as part of a total of ten weeks
away from our church
for a sabbatical. Frankly, I was a little concerned before we began that we
might be somewhat bored in so remote an area as Ludlow,
Pennsylvania. However, it was the remoteness of it, remote from the
busyness of the usual daily routine, remote from interruption,
that allowed us to focus on
the tasks we had so longed to do. It is true, I guess, what I have
heard, that the creativity of the mind and the imagination of the
spirit can carry you to distant places even as you are fairly
stationary in a rather remote, isolated location."
