The Rhyme of Time: A Study in the Liturgical Year

This retreat begins with dinner at 6:00 on Monday April 12, and continues through lunch on Thursday, April 15.

Participants in this workshop will study the history, origin and flow of the Christian year.  We will look at the development of the seasons and Holy days of Easter, Lent, Advent, Epiphany and other events throughout the Christian year. We will look at the historical context and significance of the liturgy used and apply it to their own church settings.  Since this workshop has practical applications, it is important for those who are participating to bring with them worship information (bulletins) from their churches for the year.  The first session will begin after dinner on Monday evening.  Two full days of sessions follow, with the concluding time together on Thursday morning. Participation in all sessions earns 2 CEUs.

Rev. Bob J. George, Jr. is currently serving the United Methodist Church of Smethport, where he has served as pastor since 2000.  Bob’s interest in worship has led him to complete a Doctorate of Worship Studies from the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies in 2007. Bob’s other interests include playing the guitar, woodworking and spending time with grandchildren. Bob lives in Smethport, PA with his wife Janice.
