The Truth About Self-Care

This retreat begins with dinner at 6:00 on Sunday, July 18, and continues through lunch on Tuesday, July 20.

Finding the balance between caring for yourself and serving others is difficult. Yet, self care is important to practice in order to prevent burnout and maintain "down time" in your life.  There are ways to care for ourselves - body, mind and soul - in God-honoring ways, while still caring for others.

This retreat is designed for those who work, whether paid or as a volunteer, in the offices of our churches.

The first session will begin after dinner Sunday evening and the sessions will continue throughout the day on Monday, closing with worship Tuesday morning. Monday afternoon will be free to explore, take a hike, a nap, read a good book, visit Tall Oaks, or engage in friendly conversations with your sister secretaries.  The traditional ‘Moonlight Tea’ will take place Monday evening, on the patio of the Manorhouse—bring your teacup!

Leading this Secretaries’ workshop is the Rev. Michelle L. Wobrak.   She is an ordained elder in the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, currently serving the Christ UMC in Erie where she has been for the past 3 years.  Wobrak has served in a variety of settings, including small rural churches, small-town churches, and mid-size suburban churches.  She enjoys teaching at the Creative Arts Thing Camp at Jumonville each summer.  Her other creative interests include quilting, all kinds of needlework and history.  Wobrak has a B.S. degree in Home Economics Education from Seton Hill University and a Masters of Divinity from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.  Wobrak lives in Erie with her husband Steve.  They have two grown children.
